Plessey Woods is an expansive country park located on the north bank of the River Blyth, Northumberland. 

To get to the park, follow the signs on the A192 in Hartford Bridge, located north of Cramlington and south-west of Bedlington. 

The park comprises 100 acres of woodland, meadows, and riverside walks to explore. The woods and river banks are home to numerous birds, including the great spotted woodpeckers, tree creepers, kingfishers and the nuthatches, and wildlife including red squirrels, roe deer, otters and foxes.

The country park is an excellent location for a family day out to walk, play, explore, and picnic. The visitor centre has ample car parking, a cafe, toilets, a children’s play area. 

Northumberlandia is a gigantic land sculpture resembling a reclining female figure, located in a 19-hectare public park near Cramlington. The sculpture is 400m metres in length and 34 metres high and comprises 1.5 million tonnes of earth from the neighbouring Shotton Surface Mine.

One of the top places worthy of mention is probably the Snowy Owl on Blagdon Lane on the outskirts of Cramlington at postcode NE23 8AU.

The venue offers a range of dishes to suit most visitors, including traditional roast dinners, pizzas, premium burgers, traditional pies with vegetable platters and classic fish n chips. Would we recommend it? I’ve been there on numerous occasions, and if you are going to visit Northlandia, it’s probably worth a visit if you are feeling hungry.

Thyme Bistro at 4 Brockwell Centre, Cramlington, NE23 1XZ is an excellent local family-run restaurant serving up fresh seasonal food in comfortable surroundings. The restaurant provides a decent selection of meat and fish dishes. They are passionate about food and wine, offer early evening specials, cater for vegetarians and cook traditional Sunday lunches.

For Indian food, why not consider going to the Bayleaf Indian restaurant at Enfield House on Front Street, NE23 6RF. 

For Italian, pop over to Panuccis at 1 Smithy Square in the centre of Cramlington. Panuccis is a family-run restaurant and has become part of the local community. Since opening, Marios And Yvonne Georgiou have been providing local clientele with high-quality Mediterranean food. The food is delicious, reasonably priced and served to a high standard.

The Brockwell Seam in the Brockwell Centre, off Northumbrian Road, NE23 1XZ, is a much-loved community pub that takes its name from the old coal mine. The pub serves up hearty pub-grub, is a great place to pop in for a traditional pint and has one of the most extensive beer gardens in Cramlington.
