Once you pass your driving test, you are safe to drive on the roads by yourself, even though you are still an inexperienced driver. 

Young inexperienced drivers are much more likely to have an accident in the first two years immediately after passing their driving test.

The pass plus scheme is targetted at new drivers to help them become safer drivers. The additional training provides newly qualified drivers with more experience on roads which may not have been covered in previous driving lessons.

The benefits of Pass Plus training

This road safety initiative is aimed at improving the skills of novice drivers.

The pass plus scheme will help you become safer drivers, by gaining more driving experience on local roads you may not have covered during your driving lessons.

Designed in conjunction with insurance companies, you should be entitled to a discount on your car insurance premium from companies who support the scheme once you reach the required standard.

The training may entitle you up to 33% discount on your initial car insurance premium. You may also receive a discount on your partners or parents insurance.

What driving skills does the pass plus course provide.

Pass plus provides the newly qualified driver with additional experience and skills to handle tricky road situations and improve driver awareness. 

The Pass Plus practical training course takes a minimum of six hours to complete.

Pass Plus course consists of six modules; motorways, dual carriageways, rural roads, driving in city centre and urban environments, night-time driving and variable weather conditions.

The six specially designed training lessons will provide you with valuable extra experience and boost your driving skills that would otherwise take a long time to acquire.

When your driving instructor is satisfied with your performance, you receive a pass plus certificate from the driving standards agency. There is no additional test to take.
