Plessey Woods Country Park
Plessey Woods Country Park is a beautiful place for friends and family to enjoy a day of adventure, countryside walks and picnics.
Situated on the north bank of the River Blyth, Plessey Woods Park is less than 2.5 miles southwest of Bedlington driving. Just follow Hartford Road (A1068) from Bedlington in a southerly direction, turn right at the junction with the A192, and then immediately left approximately 200m to the north along the A192.
The country park covers 100 acres and includes woodland, meadows, and a riverside walk along the banks of the River Blyth.
The area is home to numerous birds and animals, including great spotted woodpeckers, kingfishers, red squirrels, roe deer, foxes and even otters.
Plessey Woods Art Trail is a recommended attraction in the woods. Professional artists provide some permanent unique, eye-catching art installations, such as a 6ft carved owl, hobbits and fairies along a mile-long trail.
Gallagher Park
Gallagher Park is home to woodlands, wildflower meadows, an abundance of green spaces and playing fields.
The woodland area and meadows are perfect for a relaxing walk.
The park is also a popular location for sporting activities, including football, jogging and cycling. The park features include football pitches, a BMX track and even a mountain biking course for keen cyclists.
Gallagher Park resides to the north of Bedlington on the former Doctor Pit colliery site, close to the town centre, at NE22 7LB.
Bedlington Country Park
The park spans 57 hectares of woodland and grassland along the north bank of the River Blyth. The park, created in 1984, serves as a local nature reserve. An established footpath network allows the public access to enjoy the natural woodland of the park. The valley is host to an abundance of plants and animals, many of which only live in mature old woods. The country park is becoming a significant refuge for red squirrels.
Car parking is available at Attlee Park Car Park (postcode NE22 5RX) at the bottom of Bedlington Bank and Humford Mill Car Park (NE22 5RT). A woodland walk connects the car parks. There are toilets, a picnic area, a play park at Humford Mill, and nearby are stepping stones over the River Blyth.
Bedlington Golf Club
Bedlingtonshire Golf Club opened in 1972, designed by Frank Penninck, and built on a former opencast coal mine. The club is located half a mile south of Bedlington town centre on the A1068, so the course is easily accessible.
The golf course totals 6813 yards along tree-lined driveways and is a par 73. The golf course requires good straight drives, tricky in windy conditions, and accurate iron play into tight and bunkered greens.
The facilities also include generous practice areas for putting, chipping and bunker shots and an additional practice area for practising iron shots and drives.
